WLtoys is a chinese manufacturer that produces hobby grade cars at some incredibly low prices. Here is the WLtoys 104001 Match 1/10th 4wd buggy. It comes fully rtr with the electrics, lipo and usb lipo charger and at time of writing this, costs around £120 / $160USD. What you get is a fully loaded car made out of lots of metal that looks and resembles a modern racing buggy that costs 3-4 times more just for the bare kit.
However, for this price, there are shortfalls. The metal strength is questionable, the chassis flexes ( alot ), the electrics will probably all need changing should you want to race and some of the plastic parts could be a little stronger. However, I am comparing this car to a £400+/$530USD+ modern racing 4wd which is a little unfair. If you compare the 104001 to something else in it’s price category, a near comparison would be something like the FTX Vantage which is priced similarly, then the advantages become a little more apparent. The 104001 has so much more metal than cars of a similar price bracket, and take the shocks, they actually work ok if you prep them up.
So where does the buggy sit? It’s a mild basher with the ability to take to the occasional track meet/race. It would be good for someone that predominately wants to play with a buggy and may at some stage want to venture to the nearest off road track once in a blue moon. This is fine, but those that want to race week in and week out may want to invest in a proper racing buggy. But for me, for what it is and as long as you understand the limitations, I quite like the 104001.
